My product development process is holistic and end-to-end. I begin by leading Research and Strategy to develop the content, brand, and campaign strategy. I guide that through the Design process, meeting larger business and client objectives while still executing on the small details. I carry that through to final implementation, working closely with Development and Product teams to launch, and continue the process for multi-phase projects:

    From 2011-2016 I worked in-house at MIND Research Institute, an educational organization that makes Math software used by over 2 million K-8 students across all 50 states. From 2016-onward I have worked freelance for design agencies where I designed for numerous clients across many industries.

    Team Leadership

    As a Principal team member, leadership is a key part of my work, whether it's running client and team workshops, improving working processes, or mentoring junior team members. Leadership is not one-sided though, and while I am proactive my leadership actions, I am only as effective as the teammates who contribute through collaboration. In essence, I believe leadership is a group activity, so a focus of my work is building relationships with all the teams I work with:

    Project Management

    Assisting PMs with scoping and scheduling projects helps anticipate potential challenges and opportunities, and keeps projects running smoothly.

    Account Management

    Communicating to share updates and perspectives on the client and project helps identify and strategize opportunities for growth and improvement.

    Development

    Beyond design specifications and flow diagrams, I work closely with devs to assist in implementation, including managing JIRA tickets, user stories and QA.

    Strategy

    Some projects separate Strategy from UX, so I bridge that gap to ensure the strategic vision and intended User Experience are in alignment.

    Content & Design

    Close collaboration with Designers and Copywriters ensures that designs and content are consistent with project strategies and UX frameworks.

    Being clear about project requirements is important, so I will often lead workshops to define project scope and share progress.
